About Vacheh Hovakimian
I was born into a Christian family in the Middle East, but have been living in the United States since the early 90s. My childhood, though some would call it difficult (wars have been raging in that part of the world unceasingly it seems), has left me nothing but good memories.
I fondly remember my grandparents, who as deeply faithful Christians, laying the foundation on which my faith would grow. This foundation was built upon by my parents. And though it took me a while to pick up the reigns and continue their work, I finally arrived at a place where I felt their efforts were not in vein. All of this was built on an even stronger foundation of the Armenian Church.
Armenians have been strewn across the world, due to historical circumstances, but one of the thing that has kept us Armenians was Christianity, which became the official religion of Armenia in 301 A.D.
So what does that have to do with wooden crosses? My father, and great uncle, as well as other members of the extended family were woodworkers. I, however, ended up taking a different path, but always loved working with wood. But, I wanted to make something that would provide people more than physical utility, and that is what guided me to making wooden crosses. My hope is that each cross that I make will provide some spiritual value to those who acquire one.
